The Sahel is a land of encounters, the end of one world and the beginning of another, the narrow belt that closes the doors of the desert and opens them to the heart of the savannah announcing the jungles of Africa. But far above geographical considerations, the Sahel is an idea, an idea of survival, of men who struggle daily to triumphant emerge from death stalking. Because this vast land of open plains and rocky stout is one of the toughest in the world geographies. Surviving in the Sahel is an exercise in clinging to life, an invitation to the optimism, the demonstration that being and existing, part of the perverse game of life, is just a matter of mood.
