Days and nights of behind-the-scenes mediation are tonight among the speculated initiatives that resulted in today's unexpected reaching out by president William Ruto to opposition leader Raila Odinga. It remained unclear late today whether the behind the scenes maneuvers could have included direct talks between the president and the Azimio leader, both whom curiously kept a low profile this weekend including the conspicuous skipping of church services earlier today. And as Chemutai Goin reports, a late afternoon press conference by president Ruto flipped the atmosphere of a day that had initially been dominated by public anxiety over the prospects of yet another week of street protests.
