This is a great day trip from Phoenix. This lake is characterized by unique granite dells.
We hiked the North Shore Trail down to the dam. The trail is fairly exposed and we were thankful for some cloud cover. Bring lots of water. The cool shade near the dam was the perfect place for a picnic. The trail is mostly a rock scramble, which my boys loved. They have marked the trail by painting white dots on the rock, which was fun to see who could find the next dot first. My preschooler needed help at times, but had a great time.
Camping is available. There is no swimming, but you could also rent kayaks & canoes while you are there, seasonally.
Parking is $3.
And as always, leave no trace.
