Christ the Redeemer is a statue depicting Jesus Christ located at the top of Corcovado Hill, 709 meters above sea level, overlooking a considerable part of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, it is thirty meters high (one of the largest statues in the world), not counting the eight meters of the pedestal, making it the tallest statue in the world in the Art Deco style. Its arms stretch 28 meters wide and the structure weighs 1145 tons.

The monument is part of a Catholic sanctuary and the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro manages the statue and the viewing platform, as well as being responsible for maintenance and celebrations in the area. The right to manage the site was granted by the Union to the Archdiocese of Rio in the 1930s, but access to the statue is through the Tijuca National Park, which is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).
