Washington is preparing to sell about $2 billion U.S. dollars, or $63 billion NT, worth of weapons to Taiwan, according to Reuters. Officials familiar with the matter said the potential deal includes the powerful M1A2 Abrams tank, which is equipped with defense against anti-tank warheads.Today Taiwan''s Ministry of Defense said it had requested the arms package described in the Reuters report. The ministry said U.S. arms sales to Taiwan were based on the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances. It said the deal was being handled in accordance with all relevant procedures and that so far, the progress was normal.
