Enhance your weekly guitar licks with this guitar tutorial.
Your guitar licks need to say something most of the time and just using the scales to create a solo using the shapes as a map so you don't get lost sometimes isn't enough. You need to think outside the box, so to speak, and find new ways to make a standard lick or familiar shape work in a different way. The more you try this the better your ear will be and the ways in which you approach future guitar solo/licks. This weeks lick take box one of the pentatonic but looks at it as a blues scale, then by adding in a few new note taken from the mixolydian mode you have a killer and very adaptable guitar lick to use as and when you need it. Flavour this up further by experimenting with slurs within the lick and maybe adapting different rhythms but retaining the main body of notes. Also try this lick up the octave and give it yet another step up. doing this recycles the lick and gives it a completely new lease of life.
