Telugu cinema has produced some of the country's finest art works, for which, the credit partly goes to Kasinadhuni Viswanath, whose films are a perfect blend of art and social message.
Born in February 1930 at Gudivada, Viswanath has won five National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards and 10 Filmfare Awards including Lifetime Achievement Award. He was conferred the Padma Shri in 1992.
Vishwanath, who made his directorial debut Aatma Gowravam, shot to fame after the commercial success of Siri Siri Muvva, a decade later. In 1979, Sankarabharanam released. In many ways, it was an important film that ruffled the traditional audiences with its theme. Since then, K Vishwanath has directed some of the finest pieces of art films, be it Sagara Sangamam or Subha Sankalpam.
The veteran filmmaker was conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2016 for outstanding contribution to the film industry. The recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke award committee to recognize 87-year-old Vishwanath was approved by I&B minister M Venkaiah Naidu.
