The God of Israel was not always the same as He is today. Over time, the perception of this deity evolved from a tribal god to a universal creator. This transformation did not happen overnight, but rather over centuries of biblical and extra-biblical literature which provided a growing understanding of who the God of Israel was and what role He played in the lives of His people.

In the earliest literature, the God of Israel was perceived as a warrior god who fought alongside his people and defended them against their enemies. He was localized to one geographic area, with no concept that He had any power or authority outside of this region. This particular understanding of the divine being is evidenced in the early books of the Old Testament, such as Deuteronomy and Joshua.

The concept of the God of Israel changed over time, however. During the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BCE, a growing number of Jewish people began to view their god in a more universal sense. They perceived Him as not only being powerful within their own region but also having a broader authority and power over the entire world. This idea is evident in books such as Isaiah and Daniel which emphasize that God is sovereign over all nations.

The concept of the God of Israel continued to evolve after the Babylonian exile. In later literature, such as the Wisdom literature and Psalms, we see an even further development of this deity. He is no longer just a powerful warrior god, but also a loving and compassionate creator who cares for all people equally, regardless of their location or circumstance.

The evolution of the God of Israel reveals how understanding and appreciation of an idea can change over time. From being viewed as only a tribal god in ancient times to being seen as a loving creator of all, this deity has evolved and grown with the people who believed in Him. This journey has shaped the perception of the God of Israel today, which is one of a powerful yet compassionate universal creator.
