Today's video is a mini-course in how to distress, degloss, and age magazine pages to use in your work – your art journals, junk journals, collage, altered books, and other mixed media projects. If you've seen my videos you know that I tend to use original vintage paper and other pieces in my work but recently I learned a technique that changed the way I look at humble magazine pages and how to turn them into gorgeous, distressed, one of a kind beautiful pages.
This technique was inspired by the lovely and oh so creative artist Aimee Bishop. You can find her video here:

This is Part 1 and it it includes techniques for taking the shiny gloss off of your papers, adding coffee or ink wash for a patina, overpainting, and adding texture with stencils.
I'll be back next week with Part 2, how to make magazine pages into momagami, soft, fabric-like papers using a Japanese kneading technique.
Please subscribe to my channel and be sure and turn on the notifications and let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
I have an online course THE BOOK OF YOU: How to Make and Keep an Illustrated Journal. You can find it here ($32):
