Recorded in Room 414, Gunter Hotel, San Antonio, TX
Producer: Don Law, Engineer: Vincent Liebler
This is the first in a series to fully restore, as much as possible, the full recorded output of the legendary Blues genius, Robert Johnson. In order to conduct these sessions originally, a portable recording system was used in a makeshift studio.
Restoration Notes
The effort here is restore the acoustic image from a single carbon microphone. This also gives us the opportunity to bring the relationship between the singer and guitar into better balance and time align, which improves the overall resolution of both. Every effort here has made been to preserve acoustic flat.
There has been an ongoing controversy over the years concerning the speed of the original recordings. Our tendency is to reject most arguments for this, and they are based upon the technology, as well as the music itself.
