A short video about our Housing Project
People can face significant barriers when moving out of Direct Provision and into the private rental sector. The report ‘Transition from Direct Provision to life in the community’ conducted by UCD and TCD and supported by the Irish Refugee Council detailed these issues.
The IRC Housing Project aims to assist people in overcoming these barriers by providing people with direct support and accommodation. Properties have been donated to the Project by religious congregations, civil society and members of the public and are then sub-leased to individuals and families – providing them with a secure and affordable tenancy for a guaranteed period of time.
During this time the person or family receives integration supports including language, education and employment. It is envisaged that after receiving this assistance and having lived in stable accommodation outside of Direct Provision, people will be in a better position to move in to the private rental market.
