Song birds use their songs for the purpose of getting a mate, but the song type remains common among species within their region.
In North America the white-throated sparrow has adopted a completely new song and over the years it seems to have spread across the entire continent. Dr. Ken Otter, a professor in biology at the University of Northern British Columbia, explains why this is odd and what the new song sounds like.
