I was offered a job at a small company in Kolkata after my post-graduation at a paltry Rs. 8000 per month.
Yes, I am talking about the year 2014. A decade back.
Mind you, I was supposed to work full time (for 8 hours), travel daily to work, and manage my expenses in a metro city.

Although it isn't that costly as a city and you can barely make ends meet with that salary, I felt, it was extortion.

So, I looked for some more opportunities. To my surprise, none of them agreed to pay more than Rs. 15k for a fresher like me.

10 years later, even today, things aren't very different for Kolkata.
