Our firm continues to strengthen and expand its leading edge technology expertise on the roads and infrastructure of Mcity which encompasses 18 acres of a 32-acre site on the University of Michigan’s North Campus in Ann Arbor.
Mcity is providing an off-roadway environment to test connected vehicle technology, which includes vehicles communicating with other vehicles (known as V2V), and vehicles communicating with roadside infrastructure (known as V2I), as well as various levels of automation including driverless vehicles.
Opened in July 2015, Mcity was designed and developed by the University of Michigan’s Mobility Transformation Center (MTC) in partnership with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Our firm is an affiliate industry member of the MTC, with responsibility for developing and deploying the roadside infrastructure that communicates with the vehicles being tested at Mcity. Our engineers are helping design an infrastructure environment that is robust, flexible and representative of what will likely be encountered in the real world.
MCity designers thoughtfully included multiple road types and geometries on this campus, and the connected and automated vehicle infrastructure components that we are designing support these variations. Devices from multiple manufacturers are being configured and deployed to support signalized intersections, rail crossings, curves, roundabouts and more. The environment is designed to support all aspects of the installation, including security, privacy, data collection and data dissemination.
This versatility in deployment allows our firm to be intimately familiar with a breadth of offerings, benefits and challenges currently available in the market.
