The municipality of Brig-Glis (CH) wants to preserve their historic irrigation channels in and around the city. Knowledge about their maintenance is gradually being lost. With inter-generational workshops and a new communication platform, the municipality wants to raise awareness and provide information on the importance, preservation and maintenance of the water channels. This gives an opportunity to pass on centuries-old knowledge and use their potential in modern climate adapted spatial planning measures.
“Climate action in Alpine towns” is one of 6 pilot actions to implement the goals of the Territorial Agenda 2030 of the European Union. It contributes also to the focus on Alpine towns under the Swiss Presidency of the Alpine Convention 21/22.
