Blue-yellow macaw, or ararauna parrot (lat. Ara ararauna) belongs to the Parrot family (Psittacidae). The bird got its name due to the yellow plumage on the chest and neck against the background of blue wings and back. He has a developed intelligence, loves communication and can't stand loneliness very well, falling into severe depression.
Birds feel good in captivity, but require increased attention and care. They respond to human speech and are able to remember dozens of words and phrases. Parrots are very noisy, playful and inquisitive, have a tendency to try different objects with their beaks. When offended, they can painfully scratch the owner or purposefully throw him off balance with loud screams.
The blue-and-yellow macaw is one of the largest American parrots. Its feathers were highly valued among Indian tribes in the pre-Columbian era. They were widely used to decorate clothes and headdresses, in many solemn and funerary ceremonies.
The species was first described in 1758 by the Swedish zoologist Carl Linnaeus.
