Tera Mini 1D Barcode Scanner: Pocket Waterproof Wireless Laser Scanner 3 in 1 Compatible with Bluetooth USB Wired Portable Bar Code Reader for Store Logistics Work with iOS Windows Android 1100L Green
This is a small wireless battery powered 1D barcode scanner. It includes a 2.4 Ghz USB-A plug in receiver dongle, a USB-A to USB-C data and charging cable, and a manual that is full of barcodes used to configure/program the unit. (So don't misplace the manual!)
If you plug it into a computer using the USB cable, it acts as a USB Keyboard (by default) and will "type" the numbers from any barcode you scan (as well as re-charging the built in battery). There is a configuration barcode in the manual that will change it into a USB RS232 serial port, so if your software is expecting a serial port barcode reader you can make it work that way instead.
Note that it will NOT charge from a USB-C Power Delivery device, it must be plugged into a USB-A port (5 Volts, 1 amp).
The biggest issue I ran into when testing it was interference from a battery powered LED photography light. Apparently, the light is using PWM to adjust the LED power (mixing between cool white and warm white) and the Tera barcode scanner uses a CCD camera to view the barcode that is illuminated by the red laser bar. Apparently the PWM lighting is exactly the right frequency to mess up the CCD camera's view of the white & black lines, so the scanner almost never works when that LED light is on. Turn the light off, and it works perfectly. (This caused me many headaches trying to figure out why it wasn't working...but once you know the solution the workaround is as easy as turning off the studio light....)
I tested the bluetooth, USB cable and USB-A receiver dongle, and they all worked as expected. I also tested the "offline mode" where it stores barcodes in internal memory and will "dump" them once you scan the proper barcode in the manual, which could be very useful for scanning a large number of items away from the computer (for inventory purposes or the like...)
Other than the aforementioned interference from the light, it worked exactly as I would expect and performed very well for the $25 price point.
