In this video, we’re taking a drive through Matson, a suburb in Gloucester that has an interesting history, some decent attractions, but unfortunately ranks highly for crime and deprivation both within Gloucestershire and nationally.

I actually know the area pretty well, I’ve known people that have lived here, and I’ve even been mugged here as a teenager.

If we look at the current crime stats for Matson, it ranks 4th overall within Gloucester according to crimerate.co.uk.

And to give you an idea of a typical month, there were 130 crimes reported in January with by far most of those being violent crimes

Matson has been in the local and national headlines its fair share over the years.

Gloucestershire City Council releases an Indices of Deprivation report every few years, and Matson ranks second in that report.

This means that Matson is the second most deprived area in Gloucester, and also ranks in the top 10% of the most deprived areas nationally.
