The crucial Goods and Services tax Bill will be placed in Lok Sabha today for approval after it was passed by the Rajya Sabha with some amendments.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to make a statement during the debate over 22nd Constitution Amendment Bill which aims at providing single unified tax system in the country.
The bill was passed last week in the Rajya Sabha by 203 votes for and zero against.
If the Lok Sabha passes the Constitution amendment bill, the bill will then go to state assemblies for ratification. Once the amendments are approved, Lok Sabha will pass the GST and Integrated GST Bills and the state assemblies will pass the state GST Bill.
All the chief ministers have assured government of their support and said that they will call a special session for passage of the bill as it required at least 16 states to approve itwithin 30 days of passage in the Lok Sabha.
