The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is situated in the Eastern Goldfields Region of Western Australia, and is built on one of the richest gold deposits in the world.
Gold was first discovered in the region in June 1893. The township quickly grew into a sizable settlement covered in tents and shanties. Before Christmas 1893, there were more than 100 leases pegged.
Companies started to mine the quartz reefs, and loads that had shed from the alluvial gold deposits the early prospectors found. But it was the sensational gold deposits found a few kilometres South at Boulder that secured the region's future.
Today, gold mining remains the principal industry in the region. Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines is the principal employer and operates the famous 'Super Pit'.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder is Australia's largest outback city, with a population of more than 30,000 people. As a city with a vibrant nightlife, an array of restaurants and shops...you're sure to be entertained.
The Kalgoorlie-Boulder region is renowned for gold prospecting and gold fossicking.
