The Indian Government has rolled out the new Rs 500 note as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetization drive. Here are 10 features of the new note you should know about:
- The size of the note is 63mm x 150mm, smaller than the previous Rs 500 note
- The new note is stone grey in colour
- The new note features the Red Fort, one of India’s top tourist destinations and an integral part of its heritage, along with the national flag.
- Its obverse side has a transparent register that shows the denominational numeral.
- The orientation, as well as relative position of the image of Mahatma Gandhi, is different in the new note.
- The windowed security thread feature changes to blue from green when it is tilted and the note’s right sides shows guarantee clause, emblem of RBI, and signature of respective governors with promise clause
- The Ashoka Pillar emblem is to the extreme bottom right
- The number panels have been placed on the same position as the INR 2000 notes with numbers growing to big from small.
- The new Rs 500 note, too, has special features for the visually-challenged people with the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, identification mark, and Ashoka Pillar emblem in raised print.
- The reverse sides of the notes has the year of printing mentioned on the left. It also has the slogan and the logo of the Swachh Bharat programme.
