Dunedin has won its bid to be recognised by UNESCO as a Creative City of Literature.

It's one of just 11 cities with that status worldwide.

And it's the only place in New Zealand to be part of UNESCO's wider creative cities network.

Community leaders are thrilled with the result, saying it will open up a range of lucrative opportunities.
