A barber was charged at the magistrate's court in George Town today with cheating a woman out of RM358,015 by promising her a job as a stewardess with Singapore Airlines.

Tan Chun Hooi, 37, claimed trial when the charge was read to him by the court interpreter before magistrate Siti Nurul Suhaila Baharin.

Tan is alleged to have deceived Thian Pau Chen, 38, into believing that she could get a job as a stewardess with Singapore Airlines.

This had led her to hand over RM358,015 to him through his bank account.

He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a minimum one year and maximum 10 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.----------------------------------
