The UNDRIP includes several provisions that recognise and affirm the strong connection that indigenous peoples have with their lands, natural resources and environment. It affirms a specific right to protection of the environment, recognising that the health of the environment has a significant bearing on the health and wellbeing (spiritual, social, cultural and economic) of the people.
