Filmed August 29th, 2016. Back in the summer Mitch and I decided that it was time to do a Chicago Line trip from Vickers Junction near Toledo, Ohio to Chesterton, Indiana. Originally we were going to go to Gary, Indiana but decided against it. Instead we stayed over night in Chesterton and headed back towards Elkhart the next day and eventually headed back home after loosing our light in Elkhart. We would have seen more trains at Vickers but we were dumb and decided to move to shoot a CSX with 2 BNSF ACe's. We didn't realize NS still had 4 more trains lined through before letting CSX go. We also didn't know the first day that they were doing a lot of work at Porter Junction i.e. replacing entire crossovers and track which meant that for hours at a time they weren't letting trains through (I noticed at Elkart the through tracks for unit trains were rusted over until those 2 intermodals came). We didn't find out about this until day 2 when it went from being busy to no trains for a couple of hours. I wasn't picking up the MOW feeds for NS so we didn't know the line was shut down until we ventured to Porter Junction to shoot an Amtrak train and saw all the backhoes across the tracks. Anyways, day 2 we did see a lot of trains in the afternoon when they finished up and the parade started in Elkhart. Anyways, enjoy the video of day 1!
