ArchaeoVenture #3
Join me for an adventure over to Anglesey, as I explore the small and unassuming ruins of the Din Lligwy Hut Group.
Looked after by Cadw, this stone settlement was in use during the Roman occupation of Britain, specifically between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. Excavated coins and pottery helped date the site, however the discovery of smelting hearths, iron slag and a small silver ingot have led archaeologists to question the overall function of this settlement...
Could the evidence for onsite metalworking explain why the site, small as it is, was fortified with an enclosing wall that is 5ft/15m thick?
