The New Orleans Police Department will hold an 11 a.m. press conference to give an update on a deadly parade shooting on the Bacchus parade route on St. Charles Avenue Sunday night.
The Krewe of Bacchus parade was nearing the end of its journey when gunshots rang out on the New Orleans Mardi Gras parade route on Sunday. One man was killed and four others, including a young girl, were wounded, the New Orleans Police Department said.
The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. near St. Charles Avenue and Terpsichore Street where a large crowd lined the street enjoying the Mardi Gras festivities.
Witnesses said at least a dozen shots were fired as the crowd scrambled for cover. Prior to the shooting, witnesses said there were some skirmishes in the same area that officers broke up.
