On one of my now-regular trips to my homeland of North Wales, I did my first technical outdoor rock climbing in the UK, under the wing of the expert Luca Celano who operates a guiding service called Straight Up Adventures.

We were blessed with dry and cool conditions after some rather unsettled weather, and the main event of the day was climbing Charity, a classic multi-pitch route on the iconic Idwal Slabs in the Cwm Idwal glacial mountain range.

Following that, we completed an easier climb / roped scramble up the Cneifion Arete, a route I had heard and read of before and watched some videos about. Now I know how a more difficult scramble in the UK compares with my usual scrambling and climbing routes in Hong Kong!

A very memorable experience, and one of the highlights of my trip to the UK in July 2023!
