A United Nations gauge of global food prices are now at a 10-year high, with prices soaring due to a confluence of factors: bad weather has hurt harvests; supply chains have been hit by higher shipping rates and worker shortages; and fertiliser and pesticide costs have surged. But are international conditions the source of the sudden and sometimes dramatic spikes in food prices locally?
