Firefighters rush to major building fire in Huddersfield
Multiple firefighters are this evening responding to a serious fire in #Huddersfield.
The building fire is on Old Leeds Road, with a number of fire stations in attendance.
Multiple pumps and 4x4 WM vehicles are at the scene. Mirfield fire station have confirmed the hose layer appliance is at the incident.
A spokesperson said “Fire crews are currently in attendance at a derelict building fire in Huddersfield on the outskirts of the town centre. 8 fire engines and 1 aerial appliance are at the scene to prevent it spreading to the nearby businesses. 1 barge has also been evacuated and moved as a precaution.”
In a statement West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said “Crews were called at 21.05 (30 September) to reports of a four storey derelict mill on fire, 100% involved in flames. The building measures approximately 66x48m.
“Firefighters from Huddersfield, Rastrick, Bradford (aerial ladder), Cleckheaton, Meltham, Slaithwaite, Skelmanthorpe, Shipley, Pontefract, Killingbeck, Halifax and Holmfirth are in attendance.”
