Cheonggyecheon Stream (청계천) runs through downtown Seoul from the Cheonggye Plaza (청계광장) in Gwanghwamun to Yangnyeong Market, where it connects with a larger stream before merging with the Hangang River. It was originally a natural stream since the Joseon Dynasty, but it was buried under an overpass until 2005 when it was restored as part of an urban renewal project. Today, it serves as a pleasant place for relaxation and enjoyment with plenty of attractions, eateries, and activities nearby. A great number of events are held at the plaza as well as along the stream throughout the year.
Gwanghwamun Square (광화문광장) is located on Sejong-daero, a major business district in Seoul. This large square host various events and ceremonies. Statues of King Sejong the Great, the creator of hangeul (Korean Alphabet), and Admiral Yi Sun-sin, the creator of the Geobukseon (warship also known as the "Turtle Ship"), stand in this plaza. An underground exhibition hall houses the King Sejong Hangeul Museum and the Admiral Yi Sun-sin Hall.
