Karen’s eyesight deteriorated after she injured her eyes at work. Soon, she could no longer read or write. For a year and a half, she visited doctor after doctor, but none was able to help her. Then Karen was referred to the Illinois Eye Institute.
At the Illinois Eye Institute, her doctors identified the problem and told her they would be able to restore her sight—but the treatment was not going to be easy. It would require visits to the Illinois Eye Institute two to three times a week for nearly 18 months.
She agreed to the treatment, but she was concerned about the cost because she didn’t have health insurance. But she didn’t need to worry. The team at the Illinois Eye Institute helped her find a way.
Each time Karen left a vision rehabilitation session, she had a renewed sense of pride in her accomplishments and abilities. Today, Karen no longer sees double. She can read and write again and spends her time caring for her pets and gardening.
Even with the challenges of vision rehabilitation, Karen says it was worth it. She is grateful to the staff at the Illinois Eye Institute, who treated her with respect, greeted her with smiles, and supported her on her road to recovery.
