Last Ice brings an awesome limited-time opportunity- the Burbot spawn. Whether you call them Burbot, Lawyer, Ling-cod, Mariah, or Eeelpout the fish is unmistakable from any other. Eel-like and camouflaged these fish start the spawn on shoals in the early spring. It can make for some of the most memorable days on the water as the temperatures are warming up, the days are getting longer and the mercury is almost certainly rising. Burbot spawn in great numbers together and if you locate one, you're bound to contact more. Large, heavy lures like the Meegs we used work the best as they call the fish in from a distance. White tube jigs with heavy jigs inside and a stinger were a close second. ALWAYS remember to exercise conservation when fishing for Burbot. These fish are unregulated where I fish, and as a result have no harvest limit. As these fish are spawning and are highly vulnerable, it's recommended to treat them as any other fish and keep one or two for the table, regardless of how many you catch. Today we caught 14 Burbot, and took home three, one of which took the hook deep. As always, thank you all for watching, and for more videos please subscribe and hit the notification bell.
