How to minimize System Data on Mac
1. Clear System Junk
The fastest way to eliminate unnecessary system junk all at once is by using CleanMyMac X. Here’s your step-by-step manual:
Go to CleanMyMac X - System Junk.
Click Scan. Deselect files you don’t want to delete.
Once finished, click Clean.
2. Remove Time Machine backups
To remove those backups, follow these steps:
- Launch Terminal.
- Type: tmutil listbackups, then press Return.
- Choose what to delete and paste this command: sudo tmutil delete followed by the path to the backup — [user name]/[disk name]/[YYYY-MM-DD]—press Return.
To get rid of Time Machine snapshots, follow the instructions below:
- Go to Terminal and paste tmutil listlocalsnapshots / with the space before /.
- Press Return, then type tmutil deletelocalsnapshots xxxxxxx (where ‘xxxxxxx’ is the name of the backup.) Press Return.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 for as many backups as you want
3. Optimize storage
