Number 1
There is a mythological story that earlier Lord Shiva used to live in Badrinath with his family. Then once Shri Hari was looking for a secluded place to meditate, then he liked the place of Badrinath. Because Shiva was already residing here, then how could Lord Vishnu ask for his residence from his worshiper. Then an idea came to his mind and he took the form of a small child and started crying loudly. When Mother Parvati saw this child, she started trying to pacify him. But the child was not quieting down. Mother Parvati was not able to recognize that child. But Shiv ji understood that he was Lord Vishnu himself in the form of a child.
When Mother Parvati started taking the child in her lap to her room to put him to sleep, Shiv ji stopped her and said that this child will go away on his own. Parvati ji did not agree and started putting him to sleep in her lap. When he fell asleep, he came out. After Parvati ji came out, the child locked the door from inside. When Bholenath ji reached there, the child told him that he liked this place and he should go to Kedarnath from here. In this way, this place became the abode of Lord Vishnu. Badrinath Dham and Shiv ji started living in Kedarnath with his family.
Number 2,
Badrinath Dham is situated between two mountain ranges on the banks of Alaknanda River. The idol of the Lord in the temple is made of Shaligram. It is believed that this idol of Lord Vishnu in the form of Shaligram was taken out from Narad Kun in the eighth century and installed by Adi Guru Shankaracharya ji. Shaligram is a form of Lord Vishnu which was assumed by Lord Vishnu due to the curse of demon Jalandhar's wife Vrinda.
Number 3
It is believed that after being installed by Shankaracharya ji, this idol of Lord Vishnu disappeared once. Then after that Saint Ramanuj Chari got the idol re-installed. Then in the sixteenth century, the king of Garhwal built the temple of Badrinath and got the idol removed from the cave and installed in the temple.
Number 4
According to the Puranas, after earthquake, flood and drought, Ganga will disappear and the interesting story of Badrinath and Kedarnath pilgrimage sites is associated with the story of this Ganga. Badrinath will not be visible in future. Because it is believed that the day Nar and Narayan mountains join together, the route to Badrinath will be completely closed.
According to the Puranas, in the coming few years, the present Badrinath Dham and Kedareshwar Dham will disappear and years later, a new pilgrimage named Bhavishya Badri will emerge. It is also believed that one hand of the idol of Lord Narsingh located in Joshimath is getting thinner year after year. The day this hand will disappear, the Badrinath and Kedarnath pilgrimage sites will also start disappearing.
