Liverpool’s lucky enough to have one of the ‘World’s Best Steak Restaurants’ right here in the city.
The amazing Hawksmoor, famous for its charcoal grilled, 35-day dry-aged steaks, has been delighting diners since its arrival at the end of 2022, and it’s not hard to see why.
Its spectacular setting in the heart of the iconic Grade II-listed India Buildings in Water Street, and its stunning and stylish interior, ensure it’s what great times are all about. And if you haven’t been yet, there are so many reasons why you really need to go…
Celebrating a special occasion?
Whether you’re thinking about an anniversary dinner with your other half, marking that milestone birthday, or toasting that promotion you’ve worked so hard for, Hawksmoor is just the place (and not because you couldn’t find a better setting). It’s got a great bar, a beautiful restaurant, a fabulous menu, and staff who go out of their way to make sure your celebration is spot on: “The floor team are absolutely fantastic,” says Emma Hocknell, business development manager. “For everybody coming through that door they find out what they love and make sure they leave having had a memorable experience and one that’s a little bit special.”
And Emma adds: “Of course, if you want to feel like you’re having an evening that’s just for you and you’re the only people in the restaurant, our private dining room is perfect.”

Lavish three course dinners are obviously on the menu but Hawksmoor has just launched a new Lunch Specials menu so you can relax and unwind into the afternoon too. Dishes include its much-talked-about steak and bone marrow pie with madeira gravy and croissant pie crust, a sumptuous steak salad with charcoal roasted beets – a first for the delicious dining venue – and Hawksmoor burger with triple cooked chips or salad.
“It’s all about choice,” adds Emma, “and giving people the chance to have the Hawksmoor experience with a lighter bite to eat. You don’t have to have a three-course meal, you can come in for a business lunch, or while you’re out shopping with your friends.
Just for the guys? Not at all…
It’s surprising people think it’s just the blokes who are up for a superb steak but not only is that not true – besides which, it’s not just steaks at Hawksmoor, it serves a diverse menu with the most fantastic fish dishes and vegetarian dishes – there is a distinctly female focus from the staff to its customers. Liverpool’s sommelier is the expertly trained Vanessa Ferguson, and everyone will love the chicest of venues. Far from intimidating, Hawksmoor offers a really friendly welcome so if you want to get out with the girls – or the lads – it’s the one for you. “If you want to come down, sit at the bar with you and the girls and a couple of glasses of Champagne, then go for it,” smiles Emma. “And we’ve got some great summer cocktails. My favourite is the Green Snapper, which is made from pea pod vodka, Beefeater gin and Pickle House Snapper Blend, which has a really fresh, sweet taste.” And that we want to try!
