The Strategic Zojila Tunnel is likely to be thrown open for armed forces from next year as work picked up pace on the mega project. The construction work on Asia's longest 13-km Zojila tunnel, in central Kashmir's Sonmarg area is going on at a fast pace to meet the deadline. Almost 40 percent of work has already been completed.
Every winter, airforce has to be roped in to send supplies to forces in Ladakh as Zojila pass, situated at an altitude of 11,649 feet above sea level, remains shut for several due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions.
