As you can probably already tell, today we’ve got something very special on the menu. We’re riding the trails in Ticknock Forrest just 20 minutes outside of Dublin City in the beautiful Republic of Ireland. That’s right, you can be sky high sipping the freshest pint of Guinness at St. James Gate and then in the blink of an eye be shredding the Emerald Isle. Happy days happy days!
Ticknock has one long primary mountain biking trail which is clearly marked by these trailside arrows. I went in completely blind and had no trouble finding my way around. My biggest challenge was remembering that the break levers were backwards.
Garreth, the local trail guide who helped me get up and running, told me about a bunch of trails that were off the main loop which sounded awesome. Since I was already sneaking away time from my family trip I didn’t get the chance to check them out. However I did head back up to the radio towers to find the “black trail”: A more technical, rocky section that sounded like it was right up my alley!
Despite the cold, wet, rainy conditions I had an unforgettable ride on these unique and fun trails. A big thanks to Garreth and the folks over at biking.ie. Check the description below for more information about rentals, the Ticknock trail system, and my ride on Strava.
