At approximately 11:25 PM on April 7, 2024, Patrolman Matthew Golembieski from the Monmouth Beach Police Department was conducting a routine patrol on Ocean Avenue when his bodycam footage captured a 2012 BMW speeding at 53 MPH in a 40 MPH zone. As he followed the vehicle, the driver exhibited signs of reckless driving, swerving out of her lane and striking a curb. Activating his emergency lights, Golembieski initiated a traffic stop on Ocean Boulevard near Broadway in Long Branch and notified dispatch. The driver, identified as Deidre, became the focus of a detailed traffic stop investigation captured on police bodycam video.
When approached, Deidre showed clear signs of impaired driving. She admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening and could only provide her vehicle registration. Deidre explained that she had just left work at the Colts Neck Country Club and was heading home after dropping someone off. With growing suspicion of DUI, Patrolman Peter Farmer arrived to assist, and Deidre was asked to exit the vehicle for a series of field sobriety tests.
The field sobriety tests began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, a standard assessment for impaired drivers, followed by the Walk and Turn test, during which Deidre failed to follow instructions and performed improperly. The One Leg Stand test also revealed her inability to maintain balance, and she struggled with the Lack of Convergence test. These bodycam-documented tests further supported the suspicion of operating under the influence.
Based on her erratic driving, failed sobriety tests, and the discovery of an open container of High Noon hard seltzer during a vehicle search, Deidre was arrested for DUI. Her car was impounded under John’s Law for a mandatory 12-hour hold. Patrolman Golembieski’s bodycam footage then documented her transport to the Monmouth Beach Police Department for processing.
Deidre was issued multiple citations, including DUI, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, failure to maintain lanes, open container violation, and failure to carry both a driver’s license and insurance card. She was released to a sober adult pending her court appearance after processing.
Further investigation revealed a pattern of legal trouble. Court records show that Deidre had accumulated dozens of unpaid parking tickets in Asbury Park, Sea Bright, and Red Bank over the past two years. As of November 26, 2024, many of these violations remain unresolved, highlighting the long-term consequences of ignoring traffic laws.
This compelling bodycam footage captures the full scope of the incident, from the initial reckless driving to the DUI arrest and its aftermath, providing a stark reminder of the importance of safe and responsible driving.
