If the volcano were to reawaken, which it might do right now, it’s believed that the eruption would be a small one but the Italian Civil Protection Department puts the probability of a small to average-sized eruption at 95 per cent. But a big one isn’t beyond the bounds of possibility. The reason why they might not have raised the alert level as planned in late 2023 is surprising to say the least !
