In this episode, we cut and weld together the metal chassis that we will be building the rest of the trailer on top of. We just got the steel in from the steel mill and I’m all set to start putting the trailer together. Things went pretty well for the most part. My welds were satisfactory except for one non-critical section where I had the voltage up too high. Lowering the voltage seemed to clean up the weld a lot.

The process of cutting the metal so that each piece would butt up against the one next to it took quite a while. I don’t have a lot of tools for dealing with metal so I had to use a small Dremel to do all my cutting. An attempt to use a metal blade on my miter saw failed miserably.

At this point, I’m starting to see some good progress though and I’m optimistic that I’ll be able to get this thing complete before the snow starts piling up in the northeast.
