Beneatha Younger, the intellectual and restless young woman in A Raisin in the Sun, is given a new life and path far beyond that iconic Chicago living room in Beneatha's Place written by CENTERSTAGE Artisitic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah. From 1959 to today, and from her home in Nigeria to her career at a California university, Beneatha's Place explores the power of identity as one woman confronts the fundamental questions of community and legacy.
With the world premiere of Beneatha's Place, CENTERSTAGE sought to find the Beneathas of the Baltimore Community. I Am Beneatha asks women in leadership positions in and around Baltimore how they began their journeys to leadership, who inspired them to make the journey, and how young people can take the steps to fulfill their dreams.
