Sian Phillips was superb in this BBC adaptation of Richard Llewelyn's How Green Was My Valley from 1975. Great to hear her mining deep down into her Welsh roots. She was ably supported by Stanley Baxter, Keith Drinkel, Gareth Thomas, Ray Smith, Nerys Hughes et al. A profoundly sympathetic performance by Sian. The following year she moved to the antipathy end of her emotional range as the murderous Livia in I Claudius. Calculating, cold, and utterly compelling as the wicked witch dark mother archetype.
What an extraordinary actress she was, and probably still is.
