Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi welcomed his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel to the Sadabad Palace in Tehran on Monday.
Diaz-Canel was welcomed by a guard of honour and walked the red carpet with Raisi before heading to the scheduled meetings.
Diaz-Canel’s visit is the first trip by a Cuban president to Iran since 22 years ago, when late Cuban President Fidel Castro traveled to Iran.
On the same day, senior Iranian and Cuban officials inked seven documents and agreements on the improvement of bilateral cooperation, in a ceremony, with the presidents of the two countries in attendance.
President Ebrahim Raisi and Miguel Díaz-Canel also issued a joint statement on strengthening strategic relations between Tehran and Havana.
Back in June, the Iranian president traveled to Havana and met with his Cuban counterpart.
