After heavy rains in several parts of Maharashtra, Nashik is on alert as the water level in the Godavari river has breached the safe limits. The district administration has issued an alert and urged those living near the river and on the banks of Godavari to stay alert and take precautions. Nashik district has so far received 476.1 mm of rainfall since June. 8000 cusecs of water have been released from Gangapur dam, said senior Police Inspector, Madhukar Kad. Gangapur dam supplies water to the entire city. The authorities have issued alert for Saikheda and Chandroi villages in Niphad taluka of the district. The small temples at Ramkund and the Goda Ghat in Nashik were submerged and the water reached the waist of the iconic Dutondya Maruti idol. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for several districts including Nashik.
