I’ve written extensively about concerns with diagnoses, such as oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) & conduct disorders. These are disorder based stigmatizing labels that should not be used at all in my opinion, but especially not in young children, where they represent a primary deficit in self regulation. We know that self-regulation develops through responsive care, and this information has not yet penetrated into the fields that serve young children especially ones that are vulnerable.
