A trial to re-introduce eastern barred bandicoots to western Victoria is underway, with Zoos Victoria releasing 20 of the tiny mammals near the Grampians this week.

But they'll need protection from the predators that drove them to the brink of extinction. And so, a couple of fluffy white friends have been enlisted to watch over them.
