Today we put the rams out. Its always one of the best days of the year because its the start of a new cycle of life. And even better this year because the season is so good.
First we double check they haven't got a big Barbers Pole Burden and then we split them up for their respective mobs. We need to ensure that the older ones don't go over their daughters and we need to match certain ram attributes with certain ewe attributes. We normally count on one ram being able to service approximately 70 ewes, but this year we have a couple more rams than we need, so in some mobs there's an extra ram.
This year it makes sense to use the ute to take them to their girlfriends because the creek is high and it would be impossible to get them to walk across. And it the added bonus is they arrive in the paddock fresh and ready for action!
