The early parliamentary elections held on 30 September 2023 in #Slovakia are perceived as a battle between autocracy and democracy, populism and liberalism. Polarized Slovak society must decide between the continuation of a conservative future, symbolized by the SMER-SDD party of long-time Prime Minister Robert #Fico, and the liberal change presented by Progressive Slovakia and its leader Michal #Šimečka.
Who has most effectively succeeded in mobilizing and convincing Slovaks and which parties will be invited to join the future coalition? Considering the election outcome, how stable will the upcoming government be, and will it be able to endure for the four-year election cycle? What socio-political consequences will these elections have for the domestic and foreign policy of Slovakia?
Daniel Martinek (IDM) talks with Tomáš Strážay, Director of the Research Center of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (RC SFPA) in Bratislava.
