Listen to the incredible sound of the Avro Lancaster with it's four Merlin engines as it starts up, takes off and lands at RAF Coningsby, home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Also featured is a Supermarine Spitfire.
The planes of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight have been preserved since World War II. The Lancaster, known as 'Leader' and registered as PA474, was built just after victory had been declared in Europe in 1945 and never actually saw action before deployment. The Spitfire, AB910, on the other-hand saw multiple battles and shot down a Dornier Do 217 in 1942.
The planes are intended to pay tribute to the fallen and preserve the history of the conflict for future generations to learn from. They belong to the Royal Air Force. Read more: [ Ссылка ]
